FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Transition Partners Co. SURVEY SHOWS MANY CIOs BELIEVE TECHNOLOGY UNDERFUNDED Not Surprisingly, Most CEOs Think IT Spending is About Right RESTON, VA Half of Chief Information Officers don't think their company spends enough money on information technology, according to a survey of 103 CIOs by Reston, VA consulting firm Transition Partners Co. Only five percent believe their company spends too much. But in a separate survey of 53 CEOs conducted by Transition Partners, 72 percent characterized their IT spending as "about the right amount." How would characterize your company's IT spending?
"The disparity between CIOs and CEOs on IT spending, while not unexpected, is greater than we anticipated," said firm Managing Partner Tom Pettibone, who conducted the research. "The cost issue isn't going away since it keeps going up, especially for e-business and supporting strategies." Pettibone noted that however different their perspectives may be, it's always the CIO's job to justify core IT spending. "Moreover, he or she has to put spending in context of overall business strategy and also partner with the heads of sales, marketing, manufacturing, distribution and other key areas."
